Newcastle vs Arsenal: Odds and Predictions

The Premier League is nearing the season’s final third; this Saturday, Arsenal will play Newcastle in a matchup at Emirates Stadium. The two teams currently stand at two very different stages – The Gunners currently stand second on the table, while the Magpies are trailing behind at eighth.

What are the factors?

The season could have started better for the Gunners, with multiple draws and losses. However, after overcoming a few wobbles, Arsenal are playing the best they have in recent seasons. They are currently on a five-game winning streak with stand-out mentions in their matches against Crystal Palace 5-0, West Ham 6-0, and Burnley 5-0.

Arsenal are now only two points shy of reaching the top of the table and are proving themselves as serious contenders for this year’s premier league champions, which, if they won, would be their first win in almost two decades. They came very close last year; they were number one on the table but had a rocky end to the season and ultimately placed second.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are struggling, with more losses and draws than wins this season. They might have gained some points in their matches against Aston Villa and Nottining Forrest but drew in their matches against Luton and Bournemouth. It’s fair to say their performance this season has been unstable and full of ups and downs.

This is a complete turnaround from last season, where the Magpies climbed last year’s table, surprising everyone and ending fourth, gaining themselves a spot in the Champions League – a massive improvement on the previous season, where they finished eleventh.

Injuries

Mikel Arteta should have most of his team fit and ready ahead of Saturday’s match. However, the squad will have to go on without defender Jurrien Timber due to an ACL injury, and Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey, who are also struggling with injuries.

For Newcastle, Sven Botman will have to sit another match out due to his knee injury, and it might take him longer to return to the field than first thought. The Dutch defender will join long-term absentees Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes on the sidelines. Striker Alexander Isak and winger Jacob Murphy are set to miss out, along with Sandro Tonali, who remains suspended until August for breaching betting rules.

Previous Matches

Newcastle have failed to score in their last eight visits to Emirates Stadium, where this weekend’s game will be held. Arsenal have only lost four games this entire season, but one of those losses came from November last year, when they lost to the Magpies themselves 1-0.

Newcastle may have had a few wins against the Gunners recently. However, it is unlikely that they will win on Saturday as the last time they won a game at Emirates Stadium was almost fifteen years ago in 2010, and they have only won one game ever at the North London stadium.
