Magic Of Light got the job done for us in good style last weekend. She was our weekend NAP at 7/2 and hosed up at 15/8. Unfortunately our other two selections didn’t hit the frame. It is Trials Day at Cheltenham on Saturday and it looks a cracking card. Dave Stevos’ has studied the form and you can check out his Cheltenham Saturday tips for all live ITV races below…

Cheltenham Saturday Tips

Cheltenham Saturday Tips: 1.50 Handicap Chase (Grade 3)

The opening live race of the day from Cheltenham on ITV is this 20.5f Grade 3 Handicap Chase. Eleven horses have been declared and the going is good to soft. Siruh Du Lac and Janika head the market at around 4/1. They both hold solid claims, but Siruh Du Lac is proven on decent ground while all of Janika’s wins have come on heavy. Of those two, Siruh Du Lac is preferred in receipt of a lot of weight.

However, at a much bigger price perhaps Casse Tete can bounce back from a poor effort last time. Gary Moore’s string is in good nick and this 7yo looks handicapped to run a big race. He usually takes a couple of runs to come to himself and he won off 133 on his third run of the season in 2017/18. Casse Tete is rated just a pound higher now. He is at his best with a slight ease in the ground so underfoot conditions look perfect. He could outrun his odds of 25/1 for each way players.

CHELTENHAM SATURDAY TIPS: CASSE TETE E/W @ 25/1

Cheltenham Saturday Tips: 2.25 Trial Cotswold Chase (Grade 2)

A disappointing field of just six will line up at the start for this 25.5f Grade 2 Chase. Frodon steps back up in trip after three excellent handicap runs at 20f and he is the market leader at 9/4. However, he has yet to win at further than 21f and his stamina will be stretched to the maximum here. One horse that won’t have any stamina worries is Welsh National hero, Elegant Escape.

Colin Tizzard’s son of Dubai Destination stays all day and he has a fine record in small fields. In 10 chase starts he has never finished out of the first three and at just 7yo there could still be a lot more to come from him. He ran a cracker when staying on late for 3rd in the RSA Chase behind Presenting Percy here last season. He is likely to make this a real test from the front and at odds of 11/4 he should make a bold bid.

Cheltenham Saturday Tips: 3.00 Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2)

Although only six horses will go to post for this 20.5f Grade 2 Hurdle, it is a cracking little race. There will be festival clues aplenty and unbeaten Birchfield will likely start as favourite. Hailing from the Nicky Henderson stable, this son of Jeremy made an impressive start under rules at Warwick. The 2nd, 3rd and 5th home in that race have all won since so the form looks solid.

Jarvey’s Plate is another one with obvious claims after his facile Listed win here last time. He shoulders a 5lb penalty for that win though and this looks a stronger race. Buster Valentine impressed with the manner of his win at Newcastle last time. He is unbeaten after two starts over hurdles and he also won his sole point to point outing. This is obviously a big step up in class, but this son of Ask could have the answers and at odds of 14/1 he is the each way pick.

CHELTENHAM SATURDAY TIPS: BUSTER VALENTINE E/W @ 14/1

Cheltenham Saturday Tips: 3.35 Cleeve Hurdle (Grade 2)

The final live race of the day on ITV is the Grade 2 Cleeve Hurdle. 12 horses line up for this 24f contest and it looks wide open. Sam Spinner is the highest rated in the race with a mark of 162. However, he has failed to complete the last twice and he looks risky for now. We think the one to be on here is Paisley Park for Emma Lavelle and Aidan Coleman.

This rapidly improving 7yo son of Oscar ran out an impressive winner in the Grade 1 Long Walk at Ascot last time. The ground was soft that day, but he is arguably even better on a sounder surface. We think he looks a real contender for the Stayers’ Hurdle in March. He ran poorly in that race in 2018, but he is a different animal now. At odds of 9/2 Paisley Park can take this race and prove his festival credentials.
