Fairyhouse Sunday Racing: Winter Festival Preview And Tips

December 2, 2018

It was another decent day for readers of the TXODDS blog at Newbury on Saturday. Man Of Plenty ran a mighty race to grab 4th advised at 20/1 with some bookies paying out on as many as 6 places. Lisp just failed to reel in the winner, but unfortunately Flying Angel and Rock On Rocky found the going a bit too tough. It is Royal Bond Hurdle day at Fairyhouse Sunday and Dave Stevos has previewed all of the graded races. Check out his tips for Fairyhouse below…

Fairyhouse Sunday

12.35 Fairyhouse Sunday: Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 3)

The card kicks off with a Grade 3 Juvenile Hurdle at 12.35 that has been a happy hunting ground for favourite backers in recent years. Rashaan in 2015 at 5/1 is the only winner that has been odds against since 2012, and Espoir D’Allen was an odds on winner last season. Couer Sublime, a 260k purchase at the April Sales, is the 5/4 favourite for Gordon Elliott and Bryan Cooper.

He won a weak enough looking contest at Down Royal on his first hurdle start and while he travelled well, he didn’t impress with his jumping at times. Our Legend is 16/1 and he has less than 2L to find with the fav, while Lever Du Soleil could be a danger to all if getting an easy lead. His jumping was slick at Gowran last time and on a form line through Future Proof there should be nothing between him and the fav. At odds of 7/1 he is the pick for last year’s winning trainer Gavin Cromwell.

TXODDS’ FAIRYHOUSE SUNDAY TIP: LEVER DU SOLEIL E/W @ 7/1 NB

1.05 Fairyhouse Sunday: Royal Bond Novice Hurdle (Grade 1)

This Grade 1 2 mile contest has been won by legends like Nichols Canyon, Jezki, The Tullow Tank and Hurricane Fly in the past. However, at first glance it doesn’t look like there is anything of that class in this year’s field. The only three trainers represented are Willie Mullins (2), Gordon Elliott (2) and Joseph O’Brien (1).

Commander Of Fleet, an unbeaten son of Fame And Glory looks the most unexposed. He drops back in trip after an easy win over 20f last time. The bookies make him joint favourite with Quick Grabim at 15/8. However, the value may well lie with Triplicate at odds of 10/1. The son of Galileo has won 2 of his last 3 over hurdles and he will appreciate any rain that falls. Joseph O’Brien has his string in sparkling form and a small win bet is advised.

TXODDS’ FAIRYHOUSE SUNDAY TIP: TRIPLICATE WIN @ 10/1

1.35 Fairyhouse Sunday: Drinmore Novice Chase (Grade 1)

The second Grade 1 race on the card is the 20f Drinmore Novice Chase. A field of 11 chasers will go to post and some of them are nice prospects. Delta Work is the favourite and while he won over 19.5f last time, the suspicion lingers that he is better over further. The one I like at a nice each way price is Discorama for Paul Nolan and Bryan Cooper.

This son of Saddler Maker was a gallant 2nd to Blow By Blow at Cheltenham back in March. He jumped like a natural for the most part on his chasing debut at Naas (19f yld). Although the winning margin was only 1.5L he was a snug winner. He showed a sparkling turn of foot to reel in the leaders after the final fence. Discorama looks to be a chaser with a future and he could announce his arrival on the big stage on Sunday.

TXODDS’ FAIRYHOUSE SUNDAY TIP: DISCORAMA E/W @ 9/1 NAP

2.40 Fairyhouse Sunday: Hatton’s Grace Hurdle (Grade 1)

The final Graded race of the day is the Hatton’s Grace, a 2m 4f Grade 1 hurdle. This has been won by the magnificent mare Apple’s Jade for the past two seasons and she is well fancied to complete the hat trick. However, this looks a much stronger renewal than last year and I wouldn’t be steaming in at odds on.

One that could spring a surprise with a big run if the ground softens is Dortmund Park. This fella was a wide margin winner of a Grade 1 at Punchestown last season (20f sft). He was miles behind Apple’s Jade last month at Navan but he will strip fitter for that. The ground would have been quick enough for him too. He will have the assistance of on fire Rachel Blackmore in the saddle. At odds of 33/1 he could give each way players a decent run for their money.

TXODDS’ FAIRYHOUSE SUNDAY TIP: DORTMUND PARK E/W @ 33/1
