Wednesday Racing Preview Goodwood
Day 1 at Glorious Goodwood couldn’t have gone any worse. The forecast rain arrived but didn’t get into the ground, so backing horses that handled cut turned out to be a great idea. Both Donjuan Triumphant and Wells Farhh Go went off way too fast and were never going to get home. Jimmy Quinn went for the brave man’s route on Lunar Jet, but fortune didn’t favour him. Platinum Star proved no match for Pinatubo, who was probably the star performer on the day. Dave Stevos is hoping for better luck on Wednesday, check out his Goodwood Day 2 Tips below…
Goodwood Day 2 Tips: 1.50 Unibet Goodwood Handicap (Class 2)
The Cashel Man is the one to be interested in here at a nice price. Nicky Henderson’s son of High Chaparral hosed up in a maiden hurdle last time out and he has some serious form on the level. He ran two really nice races behind Couer Blimey over 18f on soft at Newbury and he stayed on eye-catchingly from a poor position last time at York (16f gd/fm).
He flopped in a similar race to this here back in 2016 when sent off the 11/2 favourite. However, he has a good 3rd in the book over 14f, so he does act on the track. PJ McDonald is riding out of his skin right now and he had a sighter aboard this lad at Newbury. The blinkers worn at York are back on and at odds of 16/1 The Cashel Man should give each way backers a run for their money.

Goodwood Day 2 Tips: 2.25 – Unibet Handicap (Class 2)
On the form of his Ulster Derby third off 89 behind Dadoozdart, Future Investment is very interesting in this 12f handicap. The form of that run has been boosted by Halimi and Millswyn since who finished a close 1-2 in a decent Galway handicap earlier this week. The son of Mount Nelson has shown his very best form with an ease, but good ground should be fine.
He ran a decent race on his debut over 10f at Windsor, finishing 3rd to subsequent Dante winner Telecaster. In any case, given the rain that has been around in the past couple of days there is surely going to be a slight bit of juice in the ground. 11/1 looks a more than fair price for Ralph Beckett’s charge and at odds of 11/1 he is the each way NAP of the day.

Wednesday Racing Goodwood: 3.00 – Molecomb Stakes (Group 3)
Few jockeys are riding with as much confidence as Danny Tudhope right now and he could get a good tune out of Wheels On Fire here. I fancied this son of Sidestep to run a big race at Ascot but he did too much too soon. He showed a huge amount of pace though and this easier 5f could play to his strengths.
He bounced back from Ascot with a super effort in a Listed heat at Vichy when ridden with a bit more restraint. Today’s field is smaller than the one he failed to boss at the Royal Meeting and he could be dangerous if he gets loose on the lead. The most likely scenario is that the ultra talented filly Liberty Beach will reel him in late. However, Wheels On Fire definitely holds place claims at odds of 22/1.

Goodwood Racing Preview: 3.35 – Sussex Stakes (Group 1)
The feature race on Day 2 of Glorious Goodwood is the Group 1 Sussex Stakes. Too Darn Hot and Circus Maximus head the market, but the value surely lies with emphatic Irish Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain. He was behind Circus Maximus when favourite at Ascot last time but this test should suit him better.
It could be that the run came a bit too soon after the Curragh. Hills has given him a 43 day break since to freshen him up. Jamie Spencer is an excellent judge of pace from the front. He knows the horse well and he can be relied upon to get the fractions right. The more the ground dries out, the better for this son of Lope De Vega and if he reproduces that Curragh form he is the one they all have to beat. A win bet is advised at odds of 13/2.
