Irish 1000 Guineas Tips and Preview
Phoenix Of Spain demolished the field in the 2000 Guineas yesterday. Our selection, Too Darn Hot, had no excuses and while he finished 2nd it doesn’t look like he will scale the heights some expected of him. The fillies take centre stage on Sunday and while it is a smaller field, it looks a tricky enough race from a punting perspective. Dave Stevos has had his head in the formbook, check out his Irish 1000 Guineas tips and preview below…
Irish 1000 Guineas Tips: 4.25 Curragh
A total of 10 fillies will go to post for this year’s Irish 1000 Guineas. Hermosa and Qabala, 1st and 3rd in the English equivalent, face off again and head the market. Qabala may not have appreciated the bit of juice in the ground at Newmarket and back on good to firm she could turn the form around. Iridessa is an interesting contender on her 8f win in the Bet365 mile at Newmarket when she comfortably beat Hermosa and also Pretty Pollyanna.
Pretty Pollyanna is a very interesting contender for Michael Bell and Frankie. This daughter of Oasis Dream was beaten on her sole run at a mile last season but now that she is a year older and stronger, the trip should be well within her compass. Her trainer couldn’t be in much better form coming into this race. Bell has had 8 winners in the last 14 days and the booking of Dettori catches the eye.
He has ridden plenty of winners for Bell in the past and he knows the Curragh like the back of his hand. With a rating of 116 she is best in the field by 4lb on the figures. Fairyland beat her over 6f last season but her run in the English 1000 Guineas suggests that this trip stretches the speedily bred daughter of Kodiac. At the prices, Pretty Pollyanna appeals from an each way perspective and at 10/1 she is the each way pick.
