Our last selection, Prime Venture, ran a huge race for us in the Midlands National on Saturday. He was given a patient ride by Adam Wedge and he travelled into the race really well. Unfortunately, when push came to shove he didn’t quite stay on as well as one would wish, but he finished a good fourth and our 25/1 each way bets were landed. Dave Stevos likes one at a nice price on Saturday, check out his Kelso racing tip below…
Kelso Racing Tip: 3.35 – Kverneland Handicap Hurdle (Class 2)
The ITV cameras make a rare appearance up North at Kelso on Saturday. There is a valuable card at the Scottish track and the one we like goes in the Class 2 handicap hurdle at 3.35. Sandy Thomson is one of the shrewdest trainers around and he runs two in this. Seemorelights is 6lb higher than when falling at the final hurdle last time at Ayr (20f sft). He looked like he was going to win, but this new trip is an unknown for him and at a bigger price Arthur’s Secret looks to hold more solid credentials.
Stable jockey Rachael McDonald has kept the faith with this last time out winner. The 9yo scored over 24.5f at Ayr (gd/sft) and that is the type of ground he thrives on. He will encounter similar conditions here and he is only 4lb higher than for that win at Ayr. He ran well enough over this trip on his penultimate start, going down by just over 6L on ground that would have been plenty quick for him.
Sandy Thomson’s charge does handle good ground, as he showed when beaten a short head over this trip at Musselburgh. However, he is probably most effective on good to soft. His career form figures on the surface back that up (12723415). He could only manage a poor 4th in a similar race to this last April. However, that was on heavy ground. This is a tougher race than last time, but this fella looks sure to run his race and at odds of 16/1 Arthurs Secret is worth chancing each way.
