There is a great card of action at Meydan on Thursday and Dave Stevos likes one at a big price in the lucky last, a mile handicap. We were badly out of luck at the weekend, so hopefully this 20/1 shot can get us back in the groove. Find out more about our Meydan racing tip for this Thursday below…

Meydan Racing Tip: 5.25 Handicap (95-105)

The eyes of all big flat racing fans will be fixed on Meydan this Thursday. Our fancy goes in the last race, a 95-105 handicap. With Oisin Murphy back in the saddle, Hors De Combat looks a lively outsider at 20/1. This son of Mount Nelson won here at this very meeting in 2018, his third run of the festival. Murphy was on board that day, and he has form figures of 31 when riding Hors De Combat at Meydan.

His run during the summer in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot was a cracker off 103 when he was an unlucky 6th. He beaten less then 4L for the win and was just over a length off 2nd. Hors De Combat didn’t trouble the judge on his first two runs here this season off 103, but he had excuses both times. He was denied a clear run up the inner here first time up and was trapped wide last time.

As a result, the handicapper has relented and dropped him to a mark of 101. That is just a pound higher than the mark he won off here last season, so he looks feasibly handicapped. Also, Oisin Murphy presumably could have ridden one of the trio of Saeed Bin Suroor runners. That suggests that an improved run is expected from Hors De Combat here. At odds of 20/1 he looks well worth chancing each way in an open race.
