Unfortunately, Day 3 at Chester was a frustrating one. Macho Touch ran a cracker to grab 5th advised 66/1 but unfortunately it was only 4 places each way. Modern Millie also missed out on a place by one, but both Mootasadir and The Emperor Within ran stinkers. The focus switches to Newbury on Saturday where the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes is the feature. ITV are showing 4 races live, check out Dave Stevos Newbury Saturday racing tips below…
Newbury Saturday Racing Preview: 1.50 Shalaa Carnarvon Stakes (Listed)
A tricky looking 6f Listed contest opens the show at Newbury on Saturday. Twelve horses will go to post and the ground is good. The one that looks well overpriced dropping in class is Konchek. This son of Lethal Force ran some crackers in defeat in Group 2 and 3 company last season for Clive Cox. He ran poorly on the all weather and soft ground on his final two starts last season. However, his seasonal comeback was a very encouraging effort.
He was a decent 3rd in the Group 3 Pavilion Stakes at Ascot (6f gd/fm). Konchek shaped as though he would benefit for the run and he will be in peak condition now. His 2L second to Advertise is as good as any of the form in this race and a repeat of that would see him bang there at the finish. Clive Cox has his string in great shape, the ground will suit and at 12/1 he is a confident each way selection.

Newbury Saturday Racing Tips: 2.25 –Al Rayyan Stakes (Group 3)
Only 7 horses will line up at the start for this 12f Group 3. Crystal Ocean has likely scared off most of the opposition and he is the 1/3 favourite. He looked imperious when winning on his return at Sandown and stepping back up to 12f will really suit. Michael Stoute’s charge bolted up by 6L in this last year on good to firm. Favourite backers will be hoping he repeats the dose. He should win this but at just 1/3 you won’t get rich quick by backing him.
Although he has drifted in the betting, on form Red Verdon could be the one to chase the fav home. He failed to fire last time at Newmarket but he is a better horse than that. He was only 2.5L behind Crystal Ocean when they met over this trip at Ascot last season, arguably his best ever run. It is hard to see him reversing that form, but he is entitled to beat the rest here and at 20/1 he is the each way pick.
NEWBURY RACING TIP: RED VERDON E/W @ 20/1
Newbury Tips: 3.00 – London Gold Cup Handicap (Class 2)
The London Gold Cup has produced some top class winners over the years. Al Kazeem, Defoe and Cannock Chase are three of the most recent winners and some unexposed types line up in the 2019 renewal. Korcho doesn’t really fit the profile of your average London Gold Cup winner, but off a mark of just 82 he could surprise a few people with a big run.
The son of Toronado won at Windsor despite not liking the track and Newbury should suit him a lot better. He should be suited by a truly run race and he is likely to get that here. His trainer Hughie Morrison is in superb form and if they go too hard early up front, Korcho could pick up the pieces late. At odds of 20/1 he is the each way selection in a competitive race.

Newbury Racing Tips: 3.35– Lockinge Stakes (Group 1)
In receipt of weight from the boys, Laurens is the favourite for this 8f Group 1. She is undoubtedly a top class filly but this is her first run back and she might need it. The one that looks well overpriced here is Romanised, the Irish 2000 Guineas winner in 2019. Ken Condon’s son of Holy Roman Emperor went off the boil after that win, but this could be the time of year to catch him.
He was a huge eyecatcher behind Imaging at Naas last time under Billy Lee. It was almost an identical performance to the one he produced there last year on his seasonal comeback and he won the Guineas on his next start. There is no shortage of early pace in the race, which will really suit him, and good ground is fine. A massive run could be on the cards and at odds of 14/1 Romanised is our each way NAP of the day.
