Unfortunately the race didn’t go to plan for Hors de Combat and he couldn’t land a blow at Meydan. He is best when coming from well back off a very strong pace, and the contest wasn’t run to suit him. The Eider Handicap Chase is the big handicap of the day at Newcastle on Saturday. With nice ground looking likely, this 25/1 shot looks well overpriced. Check out our Newcastle Eider Chase tip below.…
Newcastle Eider Chase 2019 Tip: 2.40 (Class 2 Handicap)
Harry The Viking might be a 14yo now, but he is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, his run last time at Kelso was one of the best he has produced in recent years. He got the better of sprightly 6yo Calett Mad in a battle all the way to the line. He is as brave as they come, and he loves decent ground and marathon trips these days. Rachael MacDonald gets on really well with this fella, and her 5lb claim could be invaluable.
The Eider Chase trip of 4 miles around Newcastle is a proper stamina test. Harry The Viking ran in the race as a 12yo in 2017, and he produced a fine effort to finish 4th off a mark of 126. That effort came on ground way softer than ideal and he will be far better suited by good to soft. He is rated a pound lower for this repeat bid and he has had a nice break to freshen him up.
Sandy Thomson has his string in excellent shape right now. He had a big Saturday winner last weekend when Shades Of Midnight hosed up in the Rendlesham. It would not be a big surprise if good old Harry gave him even more to shout about in the Eider Chase at Newcastle. At odds of 25/1 Harry The Viking is the TXODDS each way Eider Chase tip.
