Forecast managed to hit the frame at a big price for us on New Year’s Day while a couple of our other selections ran well without winning. TXODDS’ resident racing tipster Dave Stevos is hoping to get back in the winning groove this week. You can check out his Sandown Saturday tips for all for live ITV4 races below…

Sandown Saturday Tips

Sandown Saturday Tips: 1.50 Mares’ Hurdle (Listed)

On all known form Laurina is going to take a whole lot of beating here. Only three mares have turned up to take her on in this 20f Listed race, a disappointing turnout. Laurina may have to carry a 3lb penalty, but with a rating of 152 she should have plenty in hand. However, her price is prohibitive at just 1/6 and a forecast bet could be the answer here.

On the figures the outsider, Got Away, is next best but her recent record is more alphabetical than numerical. We think the one to chase Laurina home could be Smaoineamh Alainn. This 7yo mare should appreciate the return to a sounder surface. She shaped nicely behind Verdana Blue in a Listed race three starts back and a repeat of that could see her claim second spot here. A Laurina/Smaoineamh Alainn forecast is advised.

Sandown Saturday Tips: 2.25 Tolworth Hurdle (Grade 1)

The feature race this weekend is undoubtedly the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle. This 16f contest has attracted a field of 6 runners and Rathhill is a short price to add to his maiden hurdle victory at Newbury. He gets similar ground here and he is the least exposed horse in the field. However, this is a big step up in class and his odds look skinny enough at 6/5.

The two Paul Nicholls horses look like they might prefer better ground. The same applies to second fav  Elixir Du Nutz. One horse that will relish conditions is Mercy Mercy Me. His best form has come over this trip of 16f, including a bumper win here on soft. He was an excellent 8th in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. Heavy ground 20f proved beyond him the last twice but dropping back in trip could suit. At odds of 25/1 a small each way interest is advised.

Sandown Saturday Tips: 3.00 Veterans’ Handicap Chase (Class 2)

A total of 17 old boys have been declared for this 24f handicap chase. It is a wide open contest and Rock Gone is currently edging favouritism at odds of 7/1. The 11yo has never won at this trip though and his stamina looked stretched here last time. At a nice each way price last year’s winner Buywise could run a big race.

This grand old 12yo won this off a mark of 138 last year and he has the same rating now. He has been well beaten on all three starts this season, but on good ground. He needs it softer to be at his best and he gets his conditions at Sandown. This race has likely been his seasonal aim and he is the each way NAP of the day at odds of 14/1. 5 Places each way available.

Sandown Saturday Tips: 3.35 Handicap Hurdle (Class 2)

This 16f handicap hurdle has attracted a disappointing field of just 7. This looks an open race, despite the small field. Monsieur Lecoq will be popular after his easy maiden win on heavy at Ffos Las last time. How strong that form is remains to be seen and at a bigger price we prefer the chances of Eragon De Chany for in form Gary Moore. Promising claimer Niall Houlihan takes off 10lbs and that could be crucial.

This fella won over 20f here back in November on heavy ground for this jockey off 129. He also won a soft ground handicap hurdle here off 121 back in March so he clearly likes the track. He ran poorly here last time, but his yard is in much better form now. Moore has had seven winners in the past fortnight and at odds of 12/1 Eragon De Chany could surprise with a good run.
