The Premier League darts regular season is winding down but there is still plenty at stake. Some players need results to seal their place in the playoffs so it should be an exciting night of arrows action. Our darts expert James Punt has had a look at every match in great detail. Check out his free Week 15 Tips for the Premier League darts below…

Week 15 Tips

Week 15 Tips: Michael Smith vs. James Wade

Smith cannot make finals night and he has hit a patch of poor form. He has won just four of his last ten and lost his last three in a row. He is just going through the motions for the last two weeks and I guess he would rather be somewhere else than playing more Premier League on a Thursday night. His head has dropped in his last few matches and he looks right out of sorts. He actually threw well against Cross last week, averaged 98 but was humiliated 8-1.

He now faces is darting nemesis, James Wade, who is in 3rd place and looking good for finals night. Wade loves playing Smith and has a career H2H record of 16-3 over him. In the last 12 months it is 4-0 to Wade.

Wade has won six of his last ten matches and it is hard to see why he will not win this match tonight.

Mensur Suljovic vs. Rob Cross

This is a bigger match for Suljovic than Cross. The Austrian is in 4th place and can’t afford to drop any points if he is to book his place in the play offs. Cross is top of the table and a point in his last two matches will get him through. He will be trying to top the table of course and bag the £25000 bonus but getting to the finals is the number1 priority.

Both players have won six of their last ten matches with a draw and three defeats. Good form but not great form. Their H2H stats show a 6-6 score line and this looks like a very even type of match up. The bookmakers disagree, massively. Cross is the 1.91 favourite with one bookmaker, most go 1.83, and Suljovic an almost dismissive 3.52 with the draw 5.00.

The interesting stat for me is their H2H record in the last 12 months. With odds like 1.91 Cross must be dominant? No. They have played six times in the last year and it is 5-1 to Suljovic.

Suljovic Could Slow Down

Suljovic has a certain style, a throw like a Praying Mantis’ mating dance but it works for him. He is generally a slow player and he is not shy of playing at his preferred pace and slower still if it is putting his opponent off. Some players just don’t cope well with him and it looks like Cross is becoming one of them. There are only seven players with a better H2H record against Cross and only two that have played him more than three times. They are MVG and Gary Anderson.

Cross is averaging 4.5 points higher than Suljovic in the premier league which isn’t big enough to justify the difference in the odds. You don’t get points for the highest average you get them for winning legs and Suljovic is perfectly capable of winning a match with a lower average. In the first phase Suljovic won their match 7-5 with an average of 88.7 to Cross’ 92.8.

Cross is playing well and scoring well. He won’t be easy to beat but Suljovic has proven that he can do it and has been doing it regularly.

Premier League Darts: Daryl Gurney vs. Gerwyn Price

Another match where the H2H record is important. Price has a 8-2 H2H record over Gurney and it has been fairly clear that Price has got into Gurney’s head at times. He is not alone in that of course but it’s always hard going into a match against a player who has a good record against you.

On the plus side for Gurney he won their last match 7-2 and he also had a terrible record against MVG but he turned that around with three recent wins over the Dutchman. Gurney is in great form with eight wins from his last ten so he is well placed to improve on that H2H record.

Price Not Firing In Premier League

Price has won six of his last ten matches but he has slipped down the Premier League table after picking up just 1 point from his last two matches. He is now in 6th place and really needs two wins to make finals night. He faces Peter Wright next week which looks winnable and this is a very big match for both players.

Gurney is in better form and will be feeling very good about beating Van Gerwen in both his PL matches against the world number 1. Price should be an easier proposition but no doubt the Welshman will try his best to wind up Gurney and put him out of his stride.

Gurney has been made the marginal 2.30 favourite, price 2.40 and the draw 4.75. It is a very hard match to call. On recent form Gurney deserves to be favourite but on H2H form Price is favourite. The draw certainly can’t be ruled out either. It’s a no bet match for me.

Week 15 Tips: Michael Van Gerwen vs. Peter Wright

MVG will have been livid to lose Daryl Gurney again last week. The Ulsterman has done serious damage to the Dutchman’s chances of topping the league. It is almost Van Gerwen’s by right but he is having to work for it now.

Wright is eliminated and is playing for pride and the extra £5000 for coming 7th rather than 8th. Is that really a motivating factor given it is a non-ranking competition? Probably not.

MVG Dominates H2H Stats

MVG leads their H2H stats 55-15 and he beat Wright 6-5 on Sunday in the Austrian Open. It was actually a poor performance by MVG, averaging just 89. Van Gerwen remains in excellent form with nine wins in his last ten and he is 5-2 up on Wright in the last 12 months.

Wright has won six of his last ten matches. He did show some good form on Players Championship 13 and 14 but he remains very inconsistent. His stage form is poor with just three wins from his last ten. Van Gerwen won their first phase match 7-1 and given the relative degrees of motivation for this match we could see something similar.
